Day Programs include but are not limited to the following:
Welcome to the Farm
Students visit the farm at Camp Tyler and learn about the importance of animals, crops and family on the farm and how it relates to their world. Students participate in feeding, grooming, planting and other activities experienced in farm life.
Students rotate through stations set up at the farm, focusing on a particular animal and coordinating story book read about the animal. They groom/feed and learn about the significance of each animal.
Discovery of living things in nature and habitats of East Texas. Introducing students to life cycles in plants and animals and adaptations necessary for survival.
Further investigations of ecosystems and habitats, introducing students to data collection, instruments and processes.
Students work through the Scientific Method and return to their home campus with data observations and measurements to formulate graphs, tables and charts reflecting their findings.
Students come to the prairie and learn the significance of habitat and community. Focus is upon food chain, earth cycles and adaptation of organisms within an ecosystem. Students will return from Camp Tyler with extension activity of building a model based on observations and findings in the prairie.
